"To Kill a Mockingbird"

Mockingbirds are birds that sing for the pleasure of others and themselves and they do no harm. In the play, "To kill a mockingbird", i have learned several things.

I've learned that people should not be judged because of their skin colour, their skin colour does not show if a person is good or bad, their skin colour does not show if a person is just or unjust, their skin colour shows nothing except where they come from. Back then, in 1930, people were discriminated because of their skin colour and that just because 2 white liars said so, a black could be sentenced to death for raping a person. Tom Robinson has been accused of rape by 2 white people. He was sentenced to jail just because 2 white people lied. Why? Because the people that made up the jury in the court at that time were mostly racist white humans, it just didn't make sense to them that black people could win the case because they were innocent. They were biased, just because Tom Robinson was a person in darker skin.

I have also learned that just because people says a person is bad, it doesn't necessarily mean he really is. Boo Radley was rumoured to have stabbed his father's thigh with a pair of scissors and that he came out at night to eat cats and squirrels and all the children believed these rumours. However, Boo Radley begins leaving presents like gum and coins for Dill and Scout and later in the story, he saves Jem and Scout from Bob Ewell. From this, Scout (and i) learns that once you get to know a person, most of the time they are good and kind.

The third thing i have learned is not to judge a book by it's cover. Because the jury judged Tom Robinson by his skin, they were unjust. Because Boo Radley apparently stabbed his father, people discriminated against him. Because Mrs Dubose seemed mean and hateful, Jem and Scout hated her. In actual truth, Mrs Dubose seemed hateful because she was in excruciating pain as she was a brave woman and refused to consume morphine which will become an addiction. Jem and Scout was told about this after Mrs. Dubose's death and they eventually understood not to just others by their skin.

I really enjoyed this play as it was very meaningful and i learned alot from it. I really look forward to watching other plays in the future.

What made me who i am today.

What made me who i am today.
What made me who i am today?

If this question, set by Ms. Ang, needed only one answer, i'd say... My thinking. It was my thinking that made me choose certain decisions and it was my thinking that caused me to have quite a few habits, good and bad, so my answer would basically be, my thinking.
Unfortunately, I have a feeling Ms. Ang expects a few more answers so...
The second thing, that has made me who i am today, are the influences that affects my thinking. My family and friends, the people around me, their speech and actions are the things that influence me. I see them quite often, often enough to be able to understand them more than most people do. Their habit of saying 'Shit!' and 'F*ck!' as well as their habits of throwing their tempers and their habits of keeping many things to themselves has caused me to do the same, but they have also influenced me to throw rubbish in the dustbin, to save electricity by turning off the lights and air conditioner when they are not in use, they have showed me how to stand up for myself and without these influences, i really haven't a clue who i'd be today.
Maybe a girl whose weak and lets people push her about, a girl who can't stand up for what she wants or believes in, or a girl who will fail because she doesn't have the guts to ask questions. Either way, i am glad that i have turned out the way i have today and i believe that as long as i think the right way, there will be a better me. I am one out of the (currently) 6,692,030,277 people in the world, but there's only one of me. =D
